Violence in Lexington continued Friday morning, just after midnight, when a man was sent to U.K. Hospital after he was shot in the arm.
Police said the shooting happened after one man was approached in the back parking lot of an apartment complex. The man asked for a cigarette, and according to officers, when the victim said he did not have one, he pulled out a gun and shot him.
Police said the shooter was unknown to the victim, who was shot in the arm and treated at U.K. Hospital.
Still, the scene was unsettling to some neighbors.
Brenda Mack said she called the police to that very street twice that night.
She said she saw several young men on the corner of the street swearing at each other.
Last Monday she went to a safety meeting in Lexington put on by residents concerned about violence.
"I went to that meeting because of the corruption in our neighborhood. I want to be able to walk up the street in peace," said Mack.
Mack said she does not feel safe in her neighborhood and only goes outside to walk her dog.
