Police said a Lexington sidewalk became a road for a drunk driver early Friday morning.

Police said officers stopped the driver as he was going the wrong way on Main Street just after 1 a.m.

This was after he left the Local Taco, drove down a sidewalk, hit some patio furniture and a gate, then side-swiped a parked car, according to police.

Police said the driver, Eamonn Cleary, 20, is from New Zealand.

He is charged with driving under the influence, wanton endangerment and fleeing and evading.
