Wintry Mix in our Forecast - Monday

Wintry Mix in our Forecast - Monday

Light rain & snow showers East of I-75 today, tonight, tomorrow and Wednesday.
Afternoon Update:

Temperatures continue to run well below normal this afternoon.  Given the cloud cover in place and the ice cold moisture moving in from the east heading towards the west, compliments of Hurricane Sandy, we'll only see mid 40s for highs.  Areas of light rain and snow showers continue for our extreme eastern counties.  As temperatures tumble close to freezing again this evening, that moisture will turn into an all snow event by overnight into tomorrow morning.

Good morning!

It's a bone chilling start to your workweek in some areas of central Kentucky.  A few of you may need to scrape frost off your windshield as well.  Though many areas of the Blue Grass are currently dry, east of I-75 towards the more mountainous regions, we're tracking light showers mixing with snow showers this morning...especially towards our state border with Virginia.  Those flurries and light snow showers should taper off this afternoon giving way to a light rain, as temperatures rise into the mid 40s.  However, by this evening, temperatures will drop to within a few degrees of freezing setting the stage for a wintry mix of light rain and snow showers mainly east of I-75 during the overnight hours into tomorrow.  Snow accumulations are expected SE of Breathitt County in higher elevations upwards of 1"-3". Towards extreme eastern KY nearing the state line with Virginia, we could see snow fall accumulations of greater than 4".

Though we could see a few flurries today in the Blue Grass, our best shot for non-accumulating snow showers is Tuesday morning and early Tuesday afternoon.  Along with the light rain and snow showers will come strong winds.  We're forecasting winds greater than 35 - 40 mph today, tonight & tomorrow.
