A Lexington police officer was taken to the hospital after he flipped his cruiser Wednesday night.

Police said Officer Joseph Felinksi was driving on the inner loop of New Circle Road near Georgetown Road around 10:45 p.m.

Felinksi told officials he saw what he thought was a driver texting. When he looked down to turn on his lights, he realized his car had left the roadway.

Police said he lost control on the off ramp headed to Georgetown road, hit a rock wall and flipped.

He was taken to the hospital to be checked out, but he has been released.

Police said he only had a minor scratch on his arm.
