Update: 5 Killed In Car Crash Identified

State Police have identified the five people who were killed in a two-vehicle crash Monday afternoon in Knox County.
State Police have identified the five people who were killed in a head-on crash on Christmas Eve in Knox County.

Investigators said the two-vehicle accident happened shortly after 5:00 p.m. on U.S. 25E in the Flat Lick community.

State Police said a preliminary investigation showed that a 2004 Ford Taurus operated by David Vanderpool, 31, of Williamsburg, was traveling northbound on U.S. 25E.

State Police said Vanderpool crossed the median and collided head-on with a 2010 Toyota Camry operated by Gary Caldwell, 61, of Putney, Kentucky.

State Police said all five people involved in the collision were killed.

State Police identified the victims as David Vanderpool, Gary Caldwell, Patricia Caldwell, 58, of Putney, Julia Robinson, 29 and Brent Robinson, 30, both of Bradenton, Florida.

State Police said Vanderpool and Julia and Brent Robinson were not wearing seat belts.

U.S. 25E was closed for nearly five hours while the accident was investigated and reconstructed.

Kentucky State Police Accident Reconstructionist, Detective Michael H. Cornett is in charge of the ongoing investigation.
