The son of University of Kentucky entomologist Dr. Lee Townsend was killed in an accident last week in Chicago.
Police said 32-year-old Neill Townsend, a graduate of the University of Kentucky, was riding his bike to work at a design firm Friday when someone opened the door of a parked car in front of him.
Police said, to avoid hitting the car door, Townsend swerved right into the path of a semi-truck and was killed.
The driver of the car was cited for a traffic violation, according to police.
