Two Lexington schools were placed on 'heightened alert' Wednesday as a safety precaution.

That's according to the school district.

It says all outside doors to Bryan Station High School and Bryan Station Middle School were locked as a precaution while police searched for a car thief.

The district says most of the high school students had already gone home for the day.

It says the middle school was in its afternoon dismissal process when the district was notified about the alert.
