Two people were critically injured in an early-morning fire in Boyle county.

Firefighters are trying to determine if an explosion sparked the fire at an apartment building at 418 Patrician Place in Danville.

Crews responded to the scene at 12:40 a.m. to find heavy flames and smoke.

One of the victims, a wheelchair-bound man, suffered burns to over 40% of his body.

The other victim also suffered life-threatening injuries, according to firefighters.

Investigators said it appears the fire was caused by some kind of explosion because it appears that items were blown out of the apartment.

Three people living in another apartment were displaced because of the fire.
