Two Arrested On Murder Charges Connected To March Death

Police arrested two people and charged them with murder Monday. Court documents show the charges stem from a death in a Lexington motel in March.
Two people have been charged with murder in connection to the death of their son, whose body was found in a Lexington motel in March.

The victim, Gerald Lee Lakes, 24, was found along with two other special needs adults at the Knights Inn off Stanton Drive.

Peggy Whitlock, 58, and Jerry Lakes, 64, were charged with murder.

According to court documents, the two failed to provide necessary medical care and nutrition for an extended period of time to Lakes, resulting in his death.

The two were also charged with knowingly exploiting adults and knowing abusing or neglecting.

According to court documents, the pair's other two songs with special needs were found in the hotel room malnourished.

Documents say the men were 66 pounds and 92 pounds, and that they were dirty, had an odor, and poor oral hygiene.

Those documents also said the suspects took financial resources for the sons and used it for themselves.

The men were taken into state custody the next day. Police wrote that both men gained weight since being removed.

Lakes and Whitlock are scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday.
