Outbound Richmond Road has been shut down between Squires Road and Shoreside Drive following a four-vehicle crash early Friday morning.

Police said a suspected drunk driver was heading down Richmond Road when he crossed over the median and began driving his pickup truck into oncoming traffic.

One car swerved to avoid him, but was still hit. Police said the driver of that car was not hurt.

The pickup’s driver continued on and hit another vehicle head-on, seriously injuring the two people inside.

The pickup truck was then hit by a semi, which split the vehicle in half.

Police said the pickup’s driver was taken to the hospital with critical injuries. He was not wearing a seatbelt.

Both lanes of outbound and one lane of inbound Richmond Road are expected to be shut down until around 9:30 a.m. Friday while crews finish their investigation.
