Nine people have died from heroin overdose in Fayette County since January 1, 2013, according to Fayette County Gary Ginn, and they are investigating two other cases for heroin overdose.

On Friday, the city formed a task force to help fight the growing heroin problem.

“We're all onboard,” Ginn said. “We're concerned with the numbers of heroin deaths that we're having.”

Ginn said he is on the Task Force Committee, along with the Lexington Police, Lexington Fire, Fayette County Attorney, Social Services, Fayette County Detention Center, Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, Mayor’s Office and the Health Department.

Their goal is to take a close look at the drug in the community and help those who are addicted to it.
