Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s first television ad of his 2014 re-election campaign will start airing across Kentucky Thursday.

The ad features McConnell’s wife, former U.S. Labor Secretary Elaine Chao.

The ad is in response to a tweet from the liberal group, Progress Kentucky, that McConnell called a “racial slur” in reference to his wife. The ad also responds to ads attacking McConnell’s gun control stance.

The tweet has been deleted since it was posted in February and the group later apologized.

Democrats say McConnell’s early start in campaigning proves he is worried about rumored challenger, actress Ashley Judd.

Judd has not yet said she will run for the senate seat in 2014.
