The Judicial Nominating Commission, led by Chief Justice of Kentucky John D. Minton Jr., on Friday announced the nominees to fill a vacant Fayette County Family Court judgeship.

The three attorneys named as nominees to fill the vacancy are:
  • Kathy W. Stein
  • Carl David Devine
  • Christian Renau Worth
All of the nominees are from Lexington.

They all received their juris doctor from the University of Kentucky College of Law.

Kathy Stein has been a state senator since 2008.  Prior to that, she served in the state House of Representatives.

Carl David Devine practices with the law firm of Miller, Griffin and Marks.

Christian Renau Worth has been in sole practice since 1997.

The Family Court vacancy was created when Judge Jo Ann Wise retired in August of this year.

A letter naming the three nominees is sent to Governor Steve Beshear for review.

The governor has 60-days to appoint a replacement, and his office makes the formal announcement.

Family Court has primary jurisdiction in cases involving family issues, including divorces, adoption, child support, domestic violence and juvenile status offenses.
Family Court is a division of Circuit Court.
