Every school in Pulaski County will soon be receiving a donation.

But it's not money--it's security.

Modern Systems, a security company in Somerset, donated silent alarms to every school--private, public, or otherwise.

"Hopefully it will prevent a tragedy. If not, at least what I hope to do is save precious seconds," said David Morris, president of Modern Systems.

The alarms can be put anywhere people can access them. Cellular signals connect the system to company dispatchers, who then contact police. All of this happens in a matter of seconds.

And, said security company reps, the panic button isn't just for intruder threats--it's for any situation in which a person would call 911.

Morris said he hopes to encourage other security companies across the country to do something similar in their communities, as well.

In the meantime, though, he said he's happy making people feel comfortable.

"Hopefully it'll give staff, parents, and students peace of mind knowing that something is being done."
