The Sears store at Fayette Mall will be closing by the end of the year.

The company tells ABC 36 that the change will affect 144 employees in the store and 17 people at its Auto Center.

Sears says the workers will have an opportunity to apply for positions at other Sears and Kmart locations.

A spokesperson for the company says there are several factors that play into the closures.

Sears says the changes are part of a series of actions the company takes to reduce on-going expenses, adjust its asset base, and accelerate the transformation of the company's business model.

Right now there is not a confirmed close date.
