School officials in Powell County say bats are trying to take over the gymnasium at Stanton Elementary School.
A group of bats were discovered in August when the gym was reopened for the school year.
The animals were removed.
But administrators say they've had a handful of occasions where the bats have flown back in to the school.
Building and grounds supervisor Monroe Jones says they've found bats in the hallways, the gym and in a classroom.
According to state law it is illegal to kill bats.
The school has tried sealing off the building to prevent the animals from coming back in, but Jones say they're still struggling to keep the bats out.
Rodent removers say a bat can squeeze through a half-inch size space by flattening its body.
They say bats can become persistent when it comes where they establish their homes.
Jones says the gym will remain closed.
They hope eventually the bats will look for shelter elsewhere as the weather continues to get colder.
Jones says all after school events normally held in the gym have been relocated to other schools.
