UK Student Shot Sunday Night

Police say home invasion where a UK Student was shot is considered to be drug related.
A University of Kentucky student was shot after police say he was followed into his home by two men.

The Lexington Police Department believes that the men were trying to rob the student when they went into his home on Elizabeth Street just after 11 p.m. Sunday.

The suspect fired two shots and one of the bullets hit the student in the lower back.

The suspects then went into a bedroom where they were confronted by the victim's female roommate who had a shotgun.

She fired a warning shot at the suspects.

Then both the men ran off. The victim was taken to UK hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.

After further investigation the Lexington Police Department determined that the two male suspects were
attempting to break-in the home to steal either drugs or money.

Police found baggies of marijuana and scales inside the home; they believe drugs were being sold from there.

Officials have arrested Ainsley Murrell and charged her with drug trafficking and having a controlled substance withing a 1000 feet of a school.

Another woman in the house was charged with tampering with evidence and possession of drug paraphernalia, her name has not been released.

Nothing was taken from the home. Police say the male gunshot victim may face criminal charges.

The two suspects are not considered to be dangerous to the general public. Police say the description of the suspects is very limited; they are looking for two men possibly in their 20’s one wearing a red jacket.

If anyone has any information contact the Lexington Police.
