Tuesday, November 6, 2012 is Election Day. Voting polls will be open between the hours of 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.

Lexington Police remind everyone that during that time, the sale of alcoholic beverages will be prohibited; according to, Kentucky Revised Statute 244.480.

It prohibits, “the sale of malt beverages on any primary or regular election day during the hours the polls are open”.

A change also applies to business owners.

Kentucky Revised Statute 244.290 states, "A premises that is licensed to sell distilled spirits or wine at retail shall not be permitted to remain open during the hours the polls are open on any regular or primary election day; unless the licensee provides a separate locked department in which all stock of distilled spirits and wine are kept during the hours the polls are open."
