A police chase in LaRue County early this morning killed a police officer and landed another in jail.

That’s according to the Hodgenville Police Department who says officer Mark Allen Taulbee died after chasing a car in Hodgenville.

They say Taulbee lost control of his vehicle, crashed and was thrown from his car.

He was taken to the University of Louisville Hospital where he later died.

Hodgenville Police say they were chasing Jason Avis, who they say stole a woman’s car early this morning.

He has been arrested and is in the LaRue County Jail.

Hodgenville Police Chief Johnny Cottrill says the Kentucky State Police are investigating the accident.

Cottrill says the he doesn’t think the chase went on that long and that he had given an order to stop the chase, but that the command did not get to Taulbee before he crashed.

Cottrill adds that he is at a loss for what has happened.
