A strange situation at a Lexington department store Wednesday afternoon, after police said a man fell through the ceiling.

Lexington Police said it started around 1 p.m. when workers at Roses Department Store in the Eastland Shopping Center heard noises coming from the ceiling. Police said when they arrived they found a man in the attic, and when they tried to arrest him he ran away. Police said he ran around 50 yards before the ceiling gave way, and the man fell 12 feet to the floor.

Police Lt. Sam Murdock said the man suffered minor injuries, and was taken to the hospital. An officer was reportedly hurt during the arrest, but is expected to be okay.

"This is very uncommon for something to happen like this to occur at 1 p.m. in the afternoon, this is primarily the type of crime we would see in the early morning hours, when the business are closed," said Murdock.

Police believe the man may have gotten into the ceiling through tiles in the bathroom.
