A fight led to a shooting near London early this morning.

That's according to the Laurel County Sheriff's Department who says 36-year-old Richard Lawson was drunk when he and his girlfriend, 37-year-old Gena Smith, started arguing at a home on Locust Grove Road.

Deputies say Smith was trying to run away from the house when Lawson shot at her and hit her in the ankle.

Investigators say they found Lawson passed out in the bedroom still holding the rifle and it was there they arrested him.

Deputies also say they couple's 11-year-old son was in the home at the time of the shooting.
