A Richmond Family discovered their mother’s grave wasn’t properly dug today. The top of her vault is 10 inches deep; the groundskeeper said it should be at 24 inches.

Pam Strong said they were digging a hole to plant a bush at her parents’ grave. While digging, they hit something hard.

“We kept on scraping, but automatically we knew what it was. We just knew was it was,” Strong said.

The Richmond Cemetery groundskeeper said he doesn’t know how this happened and he personally feels awful.

He said they’ve given the family several options of how they will fix this. Two of the options are to add more dirt to the top of her grave or re-dig the entire grave.

The Smith Family laid their mother to rest in March 2013.
