A man is dead after his car slams into a building in downtown Lexington early Monday morning.
It happened just after 1:00 on East Vine Street at Grand Boulevard.
Police say a man driving a silver Nissan 350 Z lost control as he was crossing Rose Street. We’re told he came off the roadway, hit the curb, a tree, a light pole before eventually hitting the PWM Insurance building.
The driver was dead when emergency crews arrived.
We’re told speed did play a factor in the crash. Witnesses say the man was driving over 100 miles per hour prior to the accident. It is not yet known if drugs or alcohol were involved.
Police also say the man was not wearing his seatbelt.
East Vine Street was closed for almost three hours while crews cleared the scene.
