It was a gruesome discovery Wednesday afternoon...a woman's badly decomposed body inside a trash can in a wooded area on Fortune Drive near Kentucky Uniforms. Investigators haven't released the woman's name or age but say she was killed by blunt force trauma to the head. They also aren't saying where she was killed, only that her body had been there for awhile.
"We have reason to believe that the body was where we found it yesterday had been there for months and possibly as early as June of last year," comments Sgt. Ann Gutierrez with the Lexington Police Department.
Less than 24 hours after her body was found, Investigators charged this man, 27-year-old Mark Cave, with her murder and tampering with physical evidence.
"Through interviews and information that came from some witnesses, we were able to place those charges on Mr. Cave," says Sgt. Gutierrez.
. Investigators aren't commenting on the relationship between the accused and the victim. It was a tip Wednesday which, investigators say, led them to the woman's body. They say the victim's loved ones started to become worried about her last summer, but didn't actually file the missing person's report until December.
"The information that we have at this point, points to around June that there was some concern by family, friends, that they were not able to locate her and then that did turn into a missing persons report in December and we started the investigation at that point," explains Sgt. Gutierrez.
Cave is being held in the Fayette County Detention Center, he was already behind bars there on several other unrelated charges.
