An 8-year-old from Lexington has cooked her way to a White House dinner being hosted by first lady Michelle Obama later this month.

The Lexington Herald Leader reports that Myka Smith-Jackson is the Kentucky winner of the national healthy lunchtime challenge sponsored by Epicurious magazine, Obama and the Departments of Education and Agriculture. It's all part of the first lady's "lets Move" initiative.

Myka's mother, Nakia Jackson, says Myka, who attends Breckinridge Elementary, loves cooking and trying new recipes. Jackson says her daughter took a couple of weeks before deciding to make a curry chicken salad wrap with a fruit smoothie and strawberries on the side.

Myka and 53 other 8 - to 12-year-olds will attend a kids' State dinner at the White House on Aug. 20.
