Lexington Police investigated a suspicious package in downtown Sunday night, causing some roads to be closed for hours.

According to police, someone reported a suspicious package on Vine Street at Limestone.

Officers said a 9 x 13 inch envelope was left on top of a trash can outside of the Community Trust Bank.

Police said there was writing on the outside of the envelop that led them to think it was suspicious.

The Hazardous Device Unit was called to the scene and they found two bottles of liquid inside the envelop.

After an x-ray on those bottles, police said it wasn’t a dangerous substance.

Streets in downtown Lexington are now back open.
