A memorial is planned in Lexington for those who died in the Newtown, Connecticut shootings.

It's scheduled to be outside of a gun show Saturday.

Maxwell Street Presbyterian Church pastors said they planned it for that reason.

"We want to raise awareness that the gun show is going on in light of everything that has happened. And we felt the most peaceful way to go about it is with the memorial service," said associate pastor Kyle Brown.

Church reps said they and their congregation felt the gun show came too quickly after the events of December 14th, 2012 at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

So pastors at Maxwell Street Church, along with other religious leaders in the greater Lexington-area, decided to hold a memorial for the lives lost in the tragedy.

"What we wanna do is lift up those people that have been...that have lost their lives at the hands of guns," said Brown.

We reached out to representatives of the gun expo who originally replied that they didn't understand what one had to do with the other, then later added that the person who would be able to comment would not be in until the next day.

The memorial is scheduled for Saturday. Pastors said people will begin arriving at noon, and the service will begin at 12:30 p.m.

The gun show will be at the Lexington Center's Heritage Hall on Saturday and Sunday.
