The Laurel County Sheriff Department's Special Response Unit (SRU) conducted a training exercise on Monday by simulating violent intruders at an elementary school.

The mock exercise was conducted with all the Sheriff's Office SRU and patrol deputies.  Additionally, Dr. Brian Jones, a professor at Georgetown College, and a tactics instructor assisted with the training.

Building and room searches were conducted simulating an armed, violent intruder inside the school.

Deputies were armed with weapons containing soft air pellets, as was the person simulating being the intruder.
