Kentucky artist Douwe Blumberg has designed and sculpted a statue that will be placed next to Ground Zero in New York City.

The statue pays tribute to America's Special Forces response following the events of 9-11.

The piece is entitled, "America's Response" monument.

The statue shows a Special Forces soldier on horseback, which was necessary to navigate Afghanistan's unforgiving terrain, allowing the men to gather critical intelligence for America's initial attacks on the Taliban.

So, when you visit Ground Zero and the 9-11 Memorial in lower Manhattan, know that a little bit of Kentucky played a role in Douwe Blumberg's inspiration for a powerful image that will be enjoyed and honored for generations.
