The Kentucky Equine Humane Center in Nicholasville says it's working to nurse a severely neglected horse back to health.

It says 'Metro Jessica' is a three-year-old Standardbred who arrived July 25th.

The center says the horse was 400 pounds underweight with abcesses to her hooves.

Executive Director Karen Gustin says, “This is one of the worst cases of neglect that we have seen. Jessica was on the brink of not making it when she arrived, but she now has a chance to survive.”

The center says her recovery will take months.
