Eastbound I-64 Shutdown At Fayette-Scott Line For Deadly Accident

A deadly accident shutdown eastbound I-64 near the Fayette-Scott County line. Investigators said one person was killed and four others injured.
Dozens of emergency vehicles were on scene of a deadly collision on I-64 eastbound at mile marker 71 near the Fayette-Scott County line.

Officials on scene said that one person was dead and four others were taken to the hospital. They were unsure of the severity of the injuries, but called them serious.

The Fayette County Coroner said it appeared the person who was killed was from out-of-state, which could delay the identification process.

Investigators said a car headed westbound crossed over the grass median into oncoming eastbound traffic and collided head-on with an SUV, causing it to flip.

I-64 eastbound was shutdown.

One westbound lane remained open.

Traffic was being diverted onto Paynes Depot Road.

Motorists were advised to avoid the area if possible, if not, to expect delays.
