A new road is being proposed that would connect Highway 27 east of Nicholasville to I-75, north of Richmond.

The road has been talked about for years, but is now in the preliminary planning stages.

Not everyone is for the project. About 80 Jessamine County residents who live near where the proposed road would go are voicing opposition to the project, saying it would hurt the local environment and historical spots in the area.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is holding public workshops to inform the public about the project and to get input on where the road should go.

The KTC says they're fully aware of the historical and environmental significance of the area, which is why they want to work with public to determine the best spot for the road.

Another public workshop will be held on August 23rd in Madison County at the B. Michael Caudill Middle School.
