Thanks to the generosity of ABC 36 viewers, dozens of families will have a Thanksgiving meal, who otherwise may have gone hungry this holiday season.

Through our 5pm & 6pm newscasts Thursday night, representatives from God's Pantry Food Bank took donations over the phone.

Workers say $40 will feed a family of 6 to 8.

More than $3,000 was pledged.

The generosity was great, and so is the need.

God's Pantry CEO Marian Guinn says," We've seen a tremendous number of new households, people who never envisioned themselves entering a food pantry and asking for assistance. Over the past 3-and-4 years, we've seen a big up-tick in the number of new families that have needed to do that."

Current statistics from God's Pantry show 1 in every 7 Kentuckians will get food from God's Pantry at some point during the year.

Last year alone, the pantry distributed 23-million pounds of food.

It's never too late to donate.
