Madison County firefighters said lightning could be behind a fire that destroyed a Richmond home early Wednesday morning.

Firefighters said the blaze began around midnight, and that it started in the attic.

The homeowner told firefighters he heard a loud boom, which they said was likely a lightning strike, and rushed out as flames started in the home.

Fire officials said no one was injured, but the homeowner did get some heat blisters.

Despite using four water trucks, firefighters said they ran out of water by 3 a.m. More water trucks came in to help stop the flames.

Firefighters said the home was a complete loss.
