Thanksgiving is a time for food and family, but a family in Lexington doesn’t limit ‘family’ to just relatives.

For 50 years, the family said they’ve invited anyone who needs a Thanksgiving meal to join them for the holiday.

“We put on our Facebook, so anyone who may not have family or money to provide for a nice Thanksgiving dinner,” Yvonne Black said.

Black said the tradition stems from her mom, who would could more food than they needed and then share it with people who were less fortunate.

Denisha Coles planned on staying home this Thanksgiving. “But Miss Yvonne insisted, ‘Oh you all you just come out.’”

Coles said they’re a loving family and was blessed to be part of their holiday.

Family members said they now rotate who hosts the annual dinner and they all contribute to the cooking.
