The 2013 Bluegrass 10,000 road race had tighter security than in years past.

Because of the tragic events of the Boston Marathon earlier in the year, organizers said they made several changes that included increased police presence, requesting everyone to be aware of their surroundings, and for racers to not re-enter the finish area once they're done.

Organizers said there are 4,000 runners expected at the race--a big difference compared to the more than 23,000 in the Boston Marathon.

It was at that race that two homemade bombs went off, killing three and injuring more than 250 others.

In a tribute to Boston, the Bluegrass 10,000 t-shirts also included the words, 'Remembering Boston 4/15/13'--the date of the race.
