Kentucky State Police have arrested one of three men who claimed to be FBI agents when they allegedly attacked a McCreary County woman last Thursday.

Timothy Prater, of Somerset is in the Laurel County Detention Center, charged with criminal conspiracy to commit murder, impersonating a police officer, and robbery.

Police responded to a call around 6:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 7. KSP Post 11 received a report of an assault at a home on Richard Stephens Road in the Pine Knot Community of McCreary County.

Police said the victim was walking from her home to her vehicle when she was assaulted by 3 men dressed in dark clothing.

Neighbors of the victim noticed a strange vehicle parked close to her home and went to check on her. The 3 men  identified themselves as FBI Agents, but refused to show identification.

The motive for the attack is still under investigation.

A woman thought to have orchestrated the scheme was found dead of an apparently shelf-inflicted gunshot wound on Friday.

State Police and a McCreary County Sheriff's Deputy found Regina Stephens dead when they went to serve a warrant for conspiracy to commit murder.
