You may get a knock on your door and the person knocking may be a door-to-door scam artist.  Police in central Kentucky have reported recent incidents involving a door-to-door magazine sale scam in Scott County.

In another scheme, someone was claiming to be collecting money to buy bullet proof vests for area law enforcement officers.  It was a scam.  The con artist was keeping the donations for himself.

Don't Fall For It.

Here are some things you should do if someone knocks on your door trying to sell you something or get you to donate to a cause.

  • Check out the company/organization with the Better Business Bureau.
  • Ask to see the salesperson's Itinerant License.
  • Don't pay with cash.
  • Don't make out a check to an individual.

Anyone who sells a product or service door-to-door, by law, must have an Itinerant's License for each county he or she sells in.

To check out a company or organization, call the BBB of Central and Eastern Kentucky toll-free at 1-800-866-6668 or online at www.ky.bbb.org
