Kristi Runyon
joined the Action News 36 team in the summer of 1999 as a General Assignment Reporter. She currently hits the air bright and early as a News Anchor for Action News 36 Good Morning Kentucky and Action News 36 at Noon. She also contributes a variety of reports to Action News 36's daily news coverage.

Born and raised in Richmond, Kentucky, Kristi is glad to be working so close to her hometown. Covering stories in and around Lexington allows her to focus on the communities and people she's known and loved her entire life.

Kristi is a graduate of Madison Central High School and Western Kentucky University. She graduated Summa Cum Laude with a degree in Broadcasting and a minor in Spanish, and spent a summer in Spain, traveling the country and studying the Spanish language and culture. Kristi also completed the University Honors Program with the Senior Thesis “Voices of Color: The Presence of Minority Media Professionals.”

Kristi began her career in television news as a reporter and producer for a public affairs program at WKYU-TV (PBS) in Bowling Green, KY. As a senior in college she was hired as a full time reporter for the city’s ABC affiliate. Following graduation, she became the weekend anchor at WBKO-TV.

Kristi’s work in television and radio has earned her more than a dozen awards. In 2004, Kristi earned a Midwestern Regional Emmy for Public Service Reporting for her story on Literacy in Central Kentucky. In 2003, her in-depth report on Internet predators earned her a Community Service Award from the U.S. Attorney’s office.

Kristi has also been honored by the Kentucky Associated Press and the Society of Professional Journalists. In the fall of 1999 she received a National Mark of Excellence Award for Television Spot News reporting. Kristi was also named a 2005 "Rising Star" by the Lexington Young Professionals Association.

Kristi volunteers with Junior Achievement, March of Dimes, and school reading programs. She's a member of the Board of Directors for the Girl Scouts Wilderness Road Council, co-chair of the "Get On Board" Advisory Council for United Way of the Bluegrass, and she's a member of the Lexington Urban League Young Professionals. She’s also active as an emcee and speaker for various community events.

In her free time Kristi enjoys napping (the early morning shift will do that to you!) and supporting her favorite sports teams. She especially enjoys watching UK basketball and Lexington Legends baseball. She also loves to travel but is always glad to return to her Kentucky home!

Kristi and her husband Jervis live in Lexington. They are the proud new parents of fraternal twin boys. Read much more about them on Kristi's Baby Blog.
