Greg Stotelmyer has been a reporter for Action News 36 since May of 1987. Greg specializes in politics, agriculture
and outdoor/environment reporting.
EKU fans will also recognize Greg as the radio voice of the EKU Colonels. He has been doing the play-by-play of EKU
football and basketball games since 1979, calling two 1-AA National Championships and the Colonel's appearance in
the 2005 NCAA Basketball Tournament. Greg also produces and hosts the weekly coach's shows covering EKU football
and basketball. A big favorite with Colonel fans, these shows run throughout football and basketball season on
Action News 36.
Greg is a 1978 Summa Cum Laude graduate of Western Kentucky University, where he double majored in speech and mass
communications.
Greg has won two Regional Emmys. In 2005 Greg was honored for his story on a high school football player who is
also excellent at chess. "He Loves to Beat People" drew an interesting comparison between playing football and
playing chess. In 2003 Greg won an Emmy for his hour long "A Year on Kentucky's Backroads." In 2002, Greg was
nominated for an Emmy for his reporting along Kentucky's Backroads.
In 1999 he won a regional Edward R. Murrow Award from the Radio and Television News Directors Association for his
documentary about the life of a tobacco farm family. Christmas of an Uncertain Season followed a Clark County
family from the start of the crop to harvest, culminating on Christmas morning. Christmas of an Uncertain Season,
with collaborator Chief Photographer Charles Watson, also won second place in the National Association of News
Photographers Yearly documentary category.
Twice the Kentucky Farm Bureau with its Communications Award has honored Greg for his coverage of agriculture
issues. He won the award in 2005 and 1993. He has received numerous United Press International and Associated
Press Awards.
A native of Connersville, IN, Greg lives in Richmond with his wife Paula. He has three stepchildren, Kylee, David
and Amber. His hobbies include hiking, traveling and reading, especially adventure travel books.
