Good Afternoon!
After a fairly "gross" start to the morning...yeah, that's an official "meteorological" term ... we are starting to see the sun here in Central Kentucky and by the late afternoon Eastern Kentucky will eventually see some sunshine.
Enjoy it because it's not going to last through your Friday. We have a cool front that will dive south from the northern plains and spark off some scattered showers and storms through the afternoon and into the overnight period. The good news is that we are going to get all the rain out of here by late Saturday morning. PERFECT TIMING!!!
Here are the latest NAM models...

Now... my thoughts on the next tropical system.
We have Tropical Storm Gustav and Tropical Storm Hanna, both gaining strength in the Caribbean and Atlantic Ocean. I think that Gustav will become a CAT 1 Hurricane tonight or very early tomorrow morning and then gain strength over the warm waters of the Gulf. Right now, he is forecasted to become a CAT 3 Hurricane and make landfall on Labor Day or on Tuesday. The forecast projection has narrowed a little and is pinpointing the panhandle of Florida west towards the Central Louisiana Coast. So, all areas along the coast are definitely on alert.
Tropical Storm Hanna is a little further out and looks to get closer to the Southeast coast by next weekend. It's still a little too far out to define a definite track but I can show you the latest model runs of the track...
Check it out! - Mary
