Golf Playing Tips

Adding distance off the tee
Adding distance off the tee shot is a common goal for most golfers. The main way to do this is by increasing your club speed. Clubhead speed can be increased most effectively by more body rotation during your back-swing.
Chipping and pitching
The approach game is one of the most important and most difficult in the game of golf. When chipping, the player must lift the ball to the green and stop it when it hits.
Correcting a hook
A hook is a shot that curves away to the left of a right-handed golfer or to the right of a left-handed golfer during the golf ball's flight. This is caused by excessive spin on the ball and an inside-to-outside swing.
Correcting a slice
A slice is caused by the rotation of the ball in an excessive clockwise direction, causing the ball to move to the right during its flight. A slice is usually caused by an outside-to-inside swing.
From the sand
Landing in the sand trap or bunker is a common and frustrating problem for many golfers. However, leaving the sand in one shot is possible, provided you make the right shot.
How to read a green
One of the things that makes golf so challenging, and often frustrating, is that greens aren't flat. Every one has some sort of tilt to it so it can drain after rainstorms.
Making bunker shots
Whether you call them bunkers, sand traps, or hazards, they can be a nightmare for beginning players or, sometimes, a strategic place for a savvy pro to aim.
Medium iron clubs
Most golfers tend to feel fairly comfortable using irons four through seven. They're more forgiving than the long irons and don't demand the pinpoint accuracy of the wedges.
Poor distance problems
The more distance you can get from your initial drive, the shorter you have to go with your subsequent shots. How far the ball goes is the direct result of one thing: how hard the club head hits the ball.
Putting
Good putters consistently score better than golfers who have not mastered the skill of putting well. Putting is mostly a matter of alignment and minimal movement.
Short iron clubs
When you hit a drive, you want the club face to be at only a slight angle, so the ball will go mostly forward. On short clubs, the eight and nine irons, plus various wedges, the club head is at an acute angle.
Stroke savers
There are many ways to cut strokes off your golf score. Many of them simply require fine tuning your existing game. While you perfect your technique, you may want to try other stroke savers, such as playing conservatively to avoid unnecessary penalties and strokes.
The perfect swing
There are fundamental principles to follow when trying to perfect (purr-fect) your golf swing. When working on your swing, keep your feet stable to ensure proper balance.
The rules of golf
You can pick up a copy of the rules of golf at practically any pro shop. There are a lot of fine points pertaining to tournament play that the average golfer doesn't have to memorize in order to enjoy the game, although it's a good idea to carry around a copy for reference.
Using long irons
Long irons are among the most difficult clubs in your bag to master. They don't give as much loft as the higher-numbered clubs or as much distance as the woods.
What about woods?
The term 'woods' doesn't make as much sense as it used to, since more and more woods are actually made of metal, graphite, or other materials. Essentially, a wood is any club with a large, wide head instead of a skinny blade.
What to do when teeing off
Your first shot off the tee will set the stage for everything else that happens on that hole. If the ball bounces happily down the center of the fairway some three hundred yards in the distance, it'll probably be a good hole.
Your clubs and you
You should be familiar and comfortable with your golf clubs before using them in a game. Using unfamiliar, uncomfortable clubs can have a negative affect on your golf game and make your day less enjoyable.
