Most employers have discovered that the best way to hire a new employee is to try them temporarily before they hire them. It is very difficult to evaluate a candidate after one or two interviews. You can try a temp to hire for a few days or a few months, until you decide they are the right choice and your put them on your payroll. Most people in hourly positions that are looking for permanent work will accept a temp to hire trial period. Many candidates also prefer this method as it allows them to evaluate the company. If you decide to use a temp to hire to evaluate new employees, it's a good idea to use an employment agency that specializes in direct hire placements to help you. The agency will screen people for temp to hire the same as for direct hire positions. The people who are career temps usually will not stay on as a long-term employee. Most agencies do not charge any additional fee if you hire one of their candidates after a minimum time as a temp to hire.
