Always check the oil in your vehicle when the engine is cold. Or, park on level ground, turn off the engine and wait at least five minutes before checking. If the oil level is below the 'add' line, add a quart of the oil type recommended by your manufacturer. If the oil level is between the 'add' and 'full' lines, be sure to continue to check your oil regularly. Too little oil in the engine will cause friction between the metal parts and can lead to serious damage. Be careful to never overfill. Too much oil can cause the oil to lose its viscosity and its ability to protect your engine. When it's time to change your oil, be sure to also change the oil filter. Oil should be changed every 3500 miles, or approximately every spring, summer, winter, and fall. Also be sure to consult your owner's manual for the correct weight and quality of oil for your vehicle.
