A ticket stub signed by New York Yankees baseball great Lou Gehrig on the very day he retired in 1939 -- and delivered one of the most famous sports speeches in history -- is expected to fetch over $100,000 at auction.

The orange mezzanine box ticket for the Yankees game against the Washington Senators is one of two known to have survived the 75 years since the first baseman bowed out of the sport on July 4, 1939, when he famously declared, "Today, I consider myself the luckiest man on the face of the Earth."

More than 60,000 tickets for the Yankee Stadium game in the Big Apple were sold.

The unidentified owner of the memorabilia is now putting the stub up for sale in Cleveland, Ohio, where it will go under the hammer on Aug. 1.

Gehrig quit the game after being diagnosed with nervous disorder amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). The condition has since been nicknamed Lou Gehrig's disease after the legendary star.
