Monday, May 7, 2012: Warm, Turning Stormy Later Today, Eventually Cooler, Drier

Good Monday morning, everybody!  I hope you had a blast this past Derby Weekend.  My family and I went camping out at Greenbo Lake State Resort Park in northeastern Kentucky.  We celebrated my daughter Finley's first birthday... we had a blast with our "little lady"!  Time flies... it's hard to believe she is a year old now.

Locally, after a stormy Friday night and damp Saturday (in some parts of the area), we had a nice, drier end to the weekend.  Today, unseasonably warm, humid air will provide the fuel for an advancing cold front to ignite strong to severe thunderstorms in the late afternoon and evening.  We're primarily concerned about wind and hail with today's storms, which will be most likely in central Kentucky, and least likely in far eastern parts of the Commonwealth.

Rainfall amounts will vary quite a bit, with some areas only seeing one or two tenths of an inch, and others seeing closer to 1" of rain.  In general, though, most areas will end up between 0.25" and 0.75".  Here is the latest GFS forecast for total rainfall for this afternoon, tonight and tomorrow.

Showers and thunderstorms will re-fire on Tuesday, mainly to the east of I-75, and the final few, lighter rain showers will exit to the east at midweek.  Thursday and Friday will bring a return to bright, dry and much cooler weather.

-

We'll have an update on ABC 36 News at Noon and 12:30, and Chief Meteorologist Jennifer Schack will be in for the afternoon and evening to handle the event.
