Friday, March 23, 2012: Near-Record Heat Ends, Now Wet With Some Storms / Hail Possible

Good Friday morning, folks!

I need to keep this brief, as I'm running down to Berea between shows for a Career Day event at Kingston Elementary.

Yesterday was the last day in the long series of near-record warmth across the area.  While we didn't make it to the level of heat seen on March 22nd of 1907 in the Bluegrass Region, a couple of records were set in London and Jackson, because the record books don't go that far back into history.

Here they are:

-

Now, an occluded front is arriving from the west, and this is producing showers and thunderstorms, especially across the western part of our area this morning.

-

-

Showers and thunderstorms will expand in coverage, spreading across the entire area during the day today.  It won't rain all day, but all areas will receive some rain at some point today.  Some of the afternoon thunderstorms COULD become severe, with hail, followed by wind, the primary concerns.  There is a lower risk of tornadoes in our area.

-

The Storm Prediction Center has placed the western part of our area in the slight risk for severe weather today and this evening.

-

-

We'll have a full update at noon and 12:30, on ABC 36!

-

Geoff
