Wednesday, April 11, 2012:  The Cold Weather Continues...

Good Wednesday morning, folks!  After a couple of very breezy, dry, springlike days, winds have died down, but we're quite a bit colder today.  Fortunately we didn't deal with the large wildfires some of our neighbors along the East Coast continue to fight.  It was windy and dry, but we appear to have dodged a bit of a bullet, early this week.

Here are yesterday's peak wind gusts.

-

Now that winds are generally back down into the 5-10 mph range, the story has shifted, and focus is now on the cold air.  Take a look at this morning's low temperatures!
-

-

It appears that Black Mountain was the coldest in the entire Commonwealth, with a low of 23° this morning!  Several other areas were in the middle 20s, which is more typical of February.  Lexington fell to 30° this morning.  We had a good, widespread freeze.

-

Temperatures will remain well below average for the next two days, with highs only peaking near 52° today, well shy of our average high of 65° for this part of April.  Tonight, with light winds and mainly clear skies, we'll return to near 30° in Lexington.

-

Freeze Watches and Warnings are in effect again tonight into early Thursday.

-

-

It would be wise to keep those plants inside until Thursday afternoon.  If you covered them last night, I'd cover them again tonight.

-

We'll return to near normal April weather on Friday afternoon.

-

In the meantime, stay warm!

-

Geoff
