Tuesday, January 3rd, 2012: Snow Recap

Good Tuesday morning, folks!  We've had a COLD start to the day... in fact, our coldest since February 11th of last year when we got down to 10°.  Lexington sat at 14° at 8 AM today, and roads remained slick in some spots.

The biggest problem areas were in eastern Kentucky, where the heaviest snow fell.  While the official snowfall at the airport comes up as only a trace, most areas had at least a few tenths of an inch of snow.  Northern Scott County had about 0.7", and between 0.5" and 0.8" were reported in Woodford and Madison Counties.  The significant snowfall was in eastern and southeastern Kentucky, where up to 3" were reported in parts of Pike, Letcher and Knott Counties.  Here are the numbers!

I'l leave you with a few photos of the snow.  We'll start with one from Duane Power in northern Scott County.  Duane always seems to do well with the snowfall up in the northern tip of Scott Co!

Jonathan Durham sent a couple our way from London, KY.  Jonathan frequently sends photos our way -- thanks, Jonathan!

BUNDLE UP today!  Wind chills will creep back out of the single digits this afternoon, but they'll only make it into the teens as actual highs peak near 25° despite partly sunny skies.  We'll climb back much closer to average tomorrow, into the lower 40s.
