Sunday Evening, February 26th, 2012: A Star Gazer's Delight...3 Planets Visible!

Good Sunday evening, folks!

Under mostly clear skies, Venus, Jupiter and the crescent Moon are beaming through the evening sky, forming a bright triangle visible through city lights and even thin clouds. They were closest together right before the sky fades completely black. The trio surrounded by twilight blue is an especially beautiful sight.

Also, if you are a good location and can see low to the western horizon, you might be able to briefly see Mercury too.  Making for three planets plus a crescent moon that will also be dropping towards the western horizon this evening.

I caught a glimpse as soon as the 6:30 newscast was over!

BIG thanks to all of the viewers who shared their photos on our ABC36 Facebook page!

As for the weather, enjoy the upper 50s Monday and 60s Tuesday!  We bring back the rain and a few thunderstorms Tuesday into Wednesday, which is of course, Leap Day.
